Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions people ask before they call. For anything about your own case, call (313) 695‑2950.

Calling and consultations

Nothing. Every consultation is free and lasts 30 minutes, in person, by phone, or by video. This applies to all five practice areas.

You describe your situation in a few minutes. The firm takes your questions by phone, then either schedules a consultation or calls you back after looking into it. If someone has been arrested or detained, or you have a court date soon, say so first.

Yes. Consultations can be by phone or video, so you do not need to travel to the office. In-person meetings are also available.

Every paper related to your matter, especially anything with a date or a deadline.

For immigration: passports, visas, I‑94 arrival records, applications, receipt and approval notices, and letters from USCIS or the immigration court. For a criminal or family case: the complaint, charging papers, bond or court notices, and any existing orders.

Bring court records for any arrest, even an old or dismissed one. If you are unsure whether something matters, bring it.

Arrests and criminal charges

You have the right to remain silent. Politely say that you want to speak with a lawyer, and do not answer questions about the case until you have one.

Then call a criminal defense attorney right away. If you are not a U.S. citizen, tell the lawyer, because a criminal case can affect your immigration status.

Languages

The attorney is fluent in English and Arabic, and a member of the staff speaks Spanish. If you prefer another language, tell us when you call.

Confidentiality and safety

Yes. What you tell the attorney is confidential. Michigan’s ethics rules for lawyers forbid her from sharing it, except in very limited situations, and that duty also covers people who talk to her but do not hire her.

The website contact form is different: please keep confidential details out of it and share them on the phone or at the consultation.

Office, hours, and scope

The firm has one office, in Detroit. It is open Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Appointments outside regular business hours may be available when necessary, and remote consultations by phone or video are available wherever you are.

For immigration, yes. Because immigration law is federal, the firm can represent immigration clients located throughout the United States in appropriate matters. Family law, criminal defense, estate planning, and personal injury matters are handled in Michigan.

Yes. The firm has five practice areas: immigration, family law, criminal defense, estate planning, and personal injury. In some personal injury matters, the firm may work with or refer the case to experienced co-counsel.
